Versus the Sony 70-200/ii.8 GM
The Sony 70-200/2.eight GM is about the same size, weight and price. Both are exquisitely sharp at every setting.
They both focus as shut, but since this lens goes to 400mm rather than 200mm, this lens gets almost twice every bit tight as the 70-200mm f/2.8 tin.

This is the best 100-400 zoom e'er fabricated for Sony cameras, and it's too the biggest and most expensive, and so no surprises here.
Personally I carry this with my Sony A9 in a Think Tank Retrospective ten pocketbook, which is the perfect size for this with my A9, 12-24/4 G (or 16-35/2.8 GM), 24-lxx/2.viii GM and other accessories.
For half the price the Sony lxx-300mm does most the same affair, with 25% less focal length.
Protective Filter
The very best protective filter is the 77mm Hoya multicoated HD3 UV which uses hardened glass and repels dirt and fingerprints, and is also multicoated.
For less coin, the B+W 77mm 010 is an excellent filter, as are the multicoated version and the basic multicoated Hoya filters, but the Hoya HD3 is the toughest and the best.
Filters final a lifetime, so you may as well get the best. The Hoya HD3 stays cleaner than the others since it repels oil and dirt, and 10 or 20 years from now will still be serving you well on whatever you're shooting in 2037.
